How It Works

1. Apply in 10th grade

Tell us you’re interested. We connect you with your school counselor and your regional INCAP Connector, who guide the application.

2. Match with an employer

Openings aren’t posted online — they’re matched by region. You interview with a participating Indiana employer and start in 11th grade.

3. Earn while you learn

You’re a paid employee from day one, with a supervisor, a training plan, and a cohort of other apprentices. Your school schedule flexes around it.

What You Earn

Pay

$13–17 per hour for every working hour, including ICC training time — over 2,000 paid hours across two years.

Credentials

An INCAP credential recognized by the Indiana Department of Education as a Credential of Value, plus optional CompTIA, Sandler, or PMI certifications depending on your program.

Diploma seal and college credit

You exceed the 650 work-based-learning hours for the Employment Honors Plus seal, and your INCAP credential may count toward college credit in a related degree.

Common Questions

Do I still graduate on time?

Yes. INCAP is built around your high school schedule and counts toward Indiana graduation pathways. Apprentices graduate with their classmates with the same diploma — plus two years of experience.

What does my school week look like?

In 11th grade, two days a week at your employer plus eight hours of online ICC instruction; in 12th grade, three days plus eight hours. Both summers are full-time at the employer for eight weeks.

Can I still go to college after?

Absolutely. Many apprentices do, often faster, with credit for their INCAP credential. Others start their career or continue into an INCAP adult Career Program.

Do I need technical experience?

No prerequisites. Successful applicants usually bring some tech fluency or high school tech coursework, but all technical training is delivered through the program.

Does it cost anything?

No. There is no tuition. You are paid for your work and your training time.

How do I apply?

Express interest with TechIndiana. Openings vary by region and are not listed online; your school counselor and regional INCAP Connector help you find and apply for them.
